We7.com reaches 1 Million Downloads!

Jan 15, 2008

We are proud to announce that the 1 millionth track has just been downloaded from We7!

We7 user David Ford downloaded The Spinners folk song 'Maggie May' in December. To celebrate, we awarded David with a brand new iPod Touch and a signed CD from former Genesis front man and We7 founder, Peter Gabriel.

Since launching in May 2007, with just 30 tracks available to users, We7 has grown to become the number one destination for music fans, offering the unique experience of allowing music lovers to download their favourite tracks for free - while at the same time ensuring artists and musicians get a fair payment for their work.

David says "I have found the service a very useful way to find free music and to listen to, try and enjoy music that I might not otherwise have done so. I will certainly enjoy using the iPod I have won, and will continue to download from them."

With over 80,000 tracks now available online, We7 offers fans a wide range of music, new and old, from The Kinks to Lou Rhodes. The We7 store regularly spotlights the best new and emerging talent and also allows artists to have their music reviewed and rated by users in the Tastemaker section. Older artists are able to reach new fans through the site, attracting audiences who are eager to explore and discover hidden gems from the past.

Mick Groves, guitarist with The Spinners, commented, "What a lovely surprise and how appropriate that the old national anthem of Liverpool should be your millionth download as we enter the Liverpool European Centre of Culture Year. You have made an old man very happy!"

Steve Purdham, CEO of We7 said "From very modest beginnings with only 30 tracks of music, it's great to end 2007 by hitting our first millionth download in such a short time. We are already on course to achieve our two millionth download shortly which means 2008 will be a brilliant year for We7."
