What is the difference between "Downloading" and "Streaming"?

Streaming is when you listen the track directly on our website. As opposed to downloading, where you download an actual file onto your computer that you can transfer to your MP3 player, with streaming you do not download anything.

How do I go about streaming an album on We7?

To play the album you want to listen to, just hover your mouse over your desired album cover (a green Play button will appear). Click on it, and you will be taken to the album page where you will hear the album begin to play from the beginning.

Can I skip between tracks?

You certainly can. To skip onto a different track hit the forward or back button (next to the play button) or double click the track you want to listen to. To Pause, simply hit the Play button and the music will stop playing.

Why can I only play 7 songs at a time?

On We7 you can have up to 60 songs in your playlist. Our player will play 7 songs at a time (which is, of course, the magic number!). After your 7th song plays, simply go back to the player and click play to start your next 7 tracks.

Why do we do this? It's simple way of you telling us you are still there. Each track of music costs money and we can only give it to you free if we know that you are listening.

Why do I get an error message when I try to listen to my Playlist?

You may get this message for a number of reasons.

Firstly, you should try to reload the page (by hitting refresh on your browser) or restarting your internet browser.

It is more likely that you need to update your version of Flash (which you can do here) or that your internet connection is not fast enough to stream music from the internet (in which case try accessing the site on a faster connection).

How do I download an individual track for free?

We have hundreds of thousands of tracks available for you to download for free, with an ad on our site. The icon on the drop down menu at the side of each track will indicate whether or not a track is downloadable.

You can download an individual track by selecting 'Download free with ad' from the drop down menu next to each track. This allows you to either open the track straight away in your default MP3 player or download the track (DRM free) straight to your hard-drive.

How do I download more than one track at a time?

You can download more than one track by adding the tracks you wish to download to a playlist. After that, click on "Your playlist" at the top of the web page and click "Download".

You will then be able to download all of the downloadable tracks to your default MP3 player. This will do one of two things depending on how your playlist is configured. For more information on using your playlists, take a look at our Playlist FAQ.

To download an entire album ad free, simply save the album as a Playlist. You can then download it from the Your Playlist page.

Why are there adverts on the tracks?

We7 is a completely legal service that works with established record labels and artists to offer music for free to fans. Naturally, we understand that record labels and artists must be paid for the music they produce. We are able to pay record labels and artists for their work by grafting on short audio adverts to the beginning of each track that are targeted at you, the user, based upon information you have given us at the registration stage.

The revenue we receive from advertisers is split between We7 and the Artists/Record Labels.

Why should I use We7 to get music for free, when I can use a P2P site like Limewire?

By using We7 to download and listen to your music for free, you are making sure that artists get fair payment for their work. This means that every time you download from our site, you are making sure the artist and record label get paid for their work.

Can I preview tracks before downloading?

Yes, you can listen to a 30 second clip of each track.

How many tracks can I download?

Currently, registered users can download a maximum of 100 tracks per day and 500 per week.

How can I buy music on We7?

Easy! All you need to do is add money to your balance.

When you click on a track or an album to purchase for the first time you will be asked to top up your balance, you will then be taken through the top up process. Every time you click on "purchase" your balance will come down.

You can then purchase and download immediately as many tracks and albums as your balance will allow.

Your balance total can be seen in the top right hand corner of the page- you need to be signed in to see this.

To buy an individual track, click Buy Track ad free from the drop down menu. To buy an entire album, click Buy Album ad free on the album page, beneath the track listing.

Why are some tracks "greyed out"?

If you find you cannot download certain tracks or find that tracks are "greyed out" it is because We7 does not have the rights to distribute those tracks in your country. While the great majority of our music is available worldwide, some artists and labels choose to restrict the countries that their music is available in. This is likely to change in future and we are currently working to extend our rights worldwide with all our artists and labels.

Why can I only buy some tracks via iTunes?

There are some tracks on We7 for which we do not yet have the rights to sell on our own store. We are working on making all the music on We7 available to purchase and download without an ad in MP3 format on the site.

For the moment, the iTunes button will take you straight to the album page on the iTunes store.

What is the difference between buying a track and downloading for free?

The music you download for free will come with a 6-12 second advert grafted onto the beginning of each track. Purchased tracks will have no advertising on them at all.

Can I get a track for free, but without an advert on it?

Yes! After you have had a downloaded track for 28 days, you can take advantage of the We7 credits system to obtain previously downloaded tracks. As a registered We7 user, you will be entitled to up to 20 FREE credits every 28 days - that's 20 free tracks a month! Please keep in mind that these tracks will be available for 28 more days before being removed from your ad-free track listing. If you would like to obtain more credits, you can do so by purchasing them here.

What is the file format of the downloads?

Everything you download from We7 will be in MP3 format at a bit rate of 192kbps.

No Digital Rights Management (DRM) then?

No. We believe DRM unfairly restricts music fans and stops them from listening to music the way they want to. We don't want to restrict the way our people can play music downloaded from We7. You can play music downloaded from our site on any MP3 player.
