The Asteroids Galaxy Tour
September 2009 | Pop
"Fruit" is the brand new album from The Asteroids Galaxy Tour, and is out now. 12 tracks of pure pop goodness, it is the best thing to come out of Denmark since bacon.
Mette, one half of the duo, joined we7 for a chat about the album, touring with Katy Perry and her plans for the rest of the year.
How are you feeling today?
Greatness.
How did you form the band?
Me and Lars recorded and created everything in his very small apartment mainly in the summer of 2007. We were asked to play a really cool support gig in Copenhagen (where we live). We wanted to play real live music and not just with a backing track, so we called some of our coolest music friends, rehearsed two times and we had played our first gig and a live band. It is a big part of what The Asteroids Galaxy Tour is all about.
Can you tell me a bit about your new album?
It's called "Fruit". You get 12 songs. It's pop. Our first. We have recorded it our self in Lars' home studio set up. Small Giants is our own record label. You have to listen to the music yourself; I don't want to tell you too much, it kind of kills the listeners own first impression of the music.
Are you excited to be releasing the debut album?
Very excited. We have been waiting for this moment for a really long time. It will also be the beginning of making our second album.
What are your favourite tracks on the album?
I have had all the songs as my favourite, almost... Track number one, "Lady Jesus", is getting back to me at the moment, I think. Hmmm... I love them all; I don't like pointing out in general!!
What has it like been supporting Katy Perry on her tour?
We got to play for a lot of hungry Katy Perry fans. Tough work though, to have a crowd in front of you who does not know you and came to see something else... but I think we stole one or two in the audience.
Have you had any wild nights with her?
We had many nights jamming with her and her band backstage, drinking too much whiskey and playing football outside in the parking lot.
What is the most famous person you have met so far? Did you get starstruck?
It must be Jesus....but then I realized that it was Mads from our band.
Your music has been played on commercials and TV programmes - what does it feel like to have your music used in this way? It must bring you to a greater audience....
People get to know about us a lot more than if we did not have some of our tracks used in commercials or used for television. We are a new band releasing our first album trying to break through. Apart from that, I don't have a TV!!
If there was one artist you say inspired you the most, who would it be?
I grew up with The Beatles music and universe. I used to draw surreal pictures which I copied from a guy called Alan Aldridge, from the book "The Beatles Illustrated Lyrics". So both Beatles and Alan. And at the same time, it might not be them.
What do you make of the music scene in Denmark at the moment - are there any bands we should be watching out for?
I'm not sure how it's like at the moment. But check out these bands. I think they have some good things going on. Oh No Ono, Giant Factory, Kiss Kiss Kiss and Who Made Who.
What are your plans for the rest of the year?
Tour, tour, tour. Promote the album, have good times with the band and also record new stuff in Lars' new studio.
Thanks for speaking to we7 today!
Your welcome!
