What is the difference between "downloading" and "streaming"?
When you "stream" music you listen to it directly on the We7 website. As opposed to "downloading", where you download an actual file onto your computer that you can transfer to your mp3 player, with streaming you do not download anything.
TopWhat is the player at the top of each page?
This is what plays your music on We7! The player will appear on every page you browse on, which means you navigate around the site without your music being interrupted.
TopHow do I go about playing music on We7?
Wherever you are, you just need to click on the blue play button to listen to some music. You will find it next to any album or tracks available online and once clicked, the music will play in the player at the top of the page.
TopCan I skip between tracks?
Yes, to skip onto a different track hit the forward or back button (next to the play button) or click on the play button beside the track you want to listen to. To pause, simply hit the pause button in the player at the top and the music will stop playing.
TopHow can I buy music on We7?
Easy! All you need to do is add money to your balance.
When you click on a track or an album to purchase for the first time you will be asked to top up your balance. By clicking on "Top Me Up!", you will go through the top-up process. Once you have transferred money to your balance, every time you buy a track or an album, your balance will come down accordingly.
You can then purchase and download immediately as many tracks and albums as your balance will allow.
Your balance total can be seen in the top right hand corner of the page - you need to be signed in to see this.
To buy an individual track, click the "Buy" button on the right hand side of the track. To buy an entire album, click the "Buy album" button at the top of the tracklisting. You can also instantly buy a track you are listening to by clicking on the blue "Buy" button on the player at the top of the page.
TopWhy do I have to top-up my balance with a minimum of £5.00?
Every time you use you credit or debit card to purchase goods, the card company charges a fee. Therefore, in order to keep the music you can purchase on We7 as cheap as possible, we limit how often you need to top-up.
TopWhy can I only buy some tracks via iTunes?
There are some tracks on We7 for which we do not yet have the rights to sell on our own store. We are working on making all the music on We7 available to purchase and download without an advert in mp3 format on the site.
For the moment, the iTunes button will take you straight to the album page on the iTunes store.
Please note, you cannot use money you have added to your We7 balance to purchase music on iTunes.
TopWhy doesn't the play button work?
We have had reports of some ad-blockers interfering when playing music on We7. These ad-blockers are installed in your browser and will block some adverts and interfere with the site. As there are adverts attached to the tracks, this might be the reason why the play button doesn't work. Please try to disable your ad-blocker before playing music on We7.
TopI get an error message when I try to listen to my music.
You may get this message for a number of reasons.
Firstly, you should try to reload the page (by hitting refresh on your browser) or restarting your internet browser.
It is more likely that you need to update your version of Flash (which you can do here) or that your internet connection is not fast enough to stream music from the internet (in which case try accessing the site on a faster connection).

TopWhat bit rate do you stream at?
We stream all our music at 192kbps.
TopHow do I download an individual track for free?
We have hundreds of thousands of tracks available for you to download for free, with an ad on our site. The first button on the right of the track will indicate whether or not the track is downloadable.
To download an individual track for free, first of all you need to log in. Then, select the "Download free with ad" button next to the track title. This allows you to either open the track straight away in your default mp3 player or download the track (DRM free) straight to your hard drive.
TopWhy can I download some tracks for free but not others?
We7 will always offer you the ability to listen to all music free (with adverts) and buy what you love in high quality mp3. Although many tracks will be available to be download for free (with an advert), the payment that rights owners and collection societies require for downloads often make this option economically unviable. We will keep on pushing for change in this area, and hope eventually we can let you have the choice to listen, buy or download "for free" all the tracks available in our catalogue.
TopHow do I download for free with an advert more than one track at a time?
You can download more than one track by adding the tracks you wish to download to a playlist. After that, go to Playlists, select the playlist you would like to download and click on the "Download" button at the top of the tracklisting.
To download an entire album, simply save the album as a playlist by clicking on the "Playlist +" button. You can then download it from the playlists page as explained above.

TopWhy are there adverts on the tracks?
We7 is a completely legal service that works with established record labels and artists to offer music for free to fans. Naturally, we understand that record labels and artists must be paid for the music they produce. We are able to pay record labels and artists for their work by grafting on short audio adverts to the beginning of each track that are targeted at you, the user, based upon information you have given us at the registration stage.
The revenue we receive from advertisers is split between We7 and the rights holders of the music - whether they are artists or record labels.
TopWhy should I use We7 to get music for free, when I can use a P2P site like Limewire?
By using We7 to download and listen to your music for free, you are making sure that artists get fair payment for their work. This means that every time you download from our site, you are making sure the artist and record label get paid for their work.
Also, by using We7 to get your music for free, you can be sure that you will not pick up a virus and that the downloaded files will be of high quality. Furthermore, all music on We7 is easily searchable and properly labelled - you can be playing your favourite music within seconds on We7!
TopHow many tracks can I download for free?
Currently, registered users can download a maximum of 100 ad-supported tracks per day and 500 ad-supported tracks per week.
TopWhy is some music not available in my country?
Every track that We7 has in its catalogue can be played because of a licence agreement between We7 and the person who owns the rights to specific tracks. Part of that agreement defines in which countries we can offer the music for download, sale or display. Our current focus is the UK, which is why many tracks are only available in this country. This will change over time and new tracks become available daily, so keep checking the site out.
TopWhy can I no longer use my ad free credits to remove the advert from my free mp3?
We7 is constantly reviewing its services based upon user feedback and behaviour as well as what is happening in the music industry. After more than a year of beta-testing, only a small percentage of We7 users have returned to remove adverts from their downloaded files. Also, the licensing terms for music downloads and payments required by the collection societies make this proposition economically unviable at the moment. So, for the time being, we have decided to remove the ad free tracks feature.
TopWhat is the difference between buying a track and downloading for free?
The music you download for free will come with a 6-12 second advert grafted onto the beginning of each track. Purchased tracks will have no advertising on them at all.
TopWhat is the file format of the downloads?
Everything you download from We7 will be in mp3 format. The downloads that come free, with an advert attached will have a bit rate of 192kbps. The mp3s that you can purchase will have a bit rate of 192 kbps for the time being but we will be gradually moving towards 320 kbps and 256 kbps.
TopNo Digital Rights Management (DRM) then?
No. We believe DRM unfairly restricts music fans and stops them from listening to music the way they want to. We don't want to restrict the way our users can play music downloaded from We7. You can play music downloaded from our site on any mp3 player, including the iPod.
