What is we7 Presents?
we7 supports new music and unsigned artists and we believe in giving these emerging artists exposure that they would not receive from other online music sites. we7 offers these unsigned artists a platform and the opportunity to reach new audiences and fans, who want to listen to the music they like for free, and buy what they love.
Every two weeks one unsigned artist will make it on to the we7 site and receive a promotion package worth over £10,000! These artists will be chosen by the we7 team and other music industry professionals.
Once you make it on to we7, every time your music is streamed or purchased in high quality mp3 format, you earn money.
What happened to Tastemaker on we7?
We are constantly working on making we7 a better user experience for our site users and artists. we7 Presents is replacing Tastemaker and is designed to be a more efficient and worthwhile initiative for unsigned artists.
If you are currently entered into the Tastemaker process you should have received an email explaining this. You will now automatically become a priority for review to make it on to we7 and we will notify you if successful.
What is included in the promotion package?
If you become a we7 Presents artist your music will be streamable on the we7 site, which means every time it is played you will earn money. You will also receive:
- Ten weeks of homepage coverage
- Two weeks free advertising on we7
- Featured in the we7 newsletter and blog
- Social network promotion
- Banners to promote your we7 profile on your social networks
The total value of this package is in excess of £10,000.
How do I become a we7 Presents artist?
If you would like to be considered as a we7 Presents artist you can email artists@we7.com and send a link to your Myspace or other site where we can listen to your music. Please DO NOT send MP3 files - these emails will not be opened and will be deleted.
The we7 team and other music industry professionals from record labels, magazines and music companies will chose the artists who will make it on to the site, based on quality of music and whatever catches their eye!
If you are not chosen, it doesn't mean your music isn't good enough, we only have limited spaces for we7 Presents artists. There are however alternative ways of getting your music onto we7 as you can use one of our partner distribution services - Ditto and AWAL.
How do I know if I've been chosen to be a we7 Presents artist?
If you are chosen as a we7 Presents artist we will notify you by email and send you our Artist Guide, which includes how to send us your music etc. You will need to agree to the Artist Terms and Conditions and register as a we7 user, prior to us accepting your music.
But I'm signed to an independent label?
we7 Presents is only open to unsigned artists, who are not tied into a recording contract. If you represent a record label, please contact labels@we7.com for further assistance on uploading your music to we7.
What kind of music does we7 Presents support?
we7 supports all genres of music from rock to metal, world, classical, rap and R&B and everything in between.
What happens to the copyright of my music if it's uploaded?
Artists retain 100% copyright of the track and sound recording.
Can people download my music?
we7 users will be able to download your songs that have been uploaded. They will be set at a standard purchase price of 0.48p.
How do I get paid and how much?
In the UK, we7 will split the net revenue generated by advertising with you, the rights owner, on a 50/50 basis after costs. The costs include payments required to collection societies (such as the MCPS-PRS Alliance) and bandwidth costs. we7 currently has limited "paid for" advertising but this will change over the coming months.
Currently, in the UK, we7 guarantees you the greatest of 50% of the net revenue from advertising or 0.1p for streaming and 10p for a paid download.
How often will I receive payment for my downloads?
Currently we7 processes a payment run at the end of the first week in the month. This payment covers the previous month. If you, the rights owner, are owed more than £20 then we7 will pay this amount to you via an automated process, into your PayPal account. If you earn less that £20, this will be carried over to the following month - you will then receive payment when the amount due is over £20. You can see how many times your songs have been downloaded and how much you have earned by logging into Profile and click on Your download stats link under the "Unsigned Artists Tools".
Can I change my artist page?
This is a feature that we plan to develop in the future. Artists will be able to edit their profiles and upload images, text, links etc. For the time being, please send us an email with any change you would like to make.
Do longer songs get longer adverts?
No, we don't use song length when choosing which adverts to attach to your songs. All the adverts on we7 will be of 5-10 seconds in length.
Will I earn more money from longer songs than shorter songs?
No, the length of a song will not determine your earnings from that recording.
Can I link to we7 from my website?
Yes! We also have a widget that you can place on your website and your blog that will display your songs and allow visitors to your site to access your tunes on we7.
To do so, go to the song page, the album page or the playlist page of the music you want and click the "More sharing options" link (at the bottom of the "Share with your friends" box in the middle of the page). In the window that pops up, just choose "Share in your web page" and use the HTML code ready to be pasted in your website.
Please note: if you already have the widget and the message "Our playlist widget has been updated. Get the new version from we7.com now!" is showing, you will need to get the new code and update your widget.
